V for Vendetta!

October 20, 2006

I want to read the book “V” for Vendetta for my outside reading book.  Already having seen the movie I look forward to reading it. From what I understand from the movie is that it takes place in the not so distant future of England, and a powerful dictator is slowly taking over! The freedom fighter, known only as “V” sets himself between the dictator and his efforts in trying to take over the rest of the world after already ruling England.  In his actions he’s becoming the next Hitler, and he will try to rule no matter the cost.  Natalie Portman, playing Evey Hammond gets caught in the middle of V’s plans when he saves her from being raped and or mugged by some ill intentioned thugs.  From then on they become somewhat friends as V explains to her exactly what is going to happen to England if he doesn’t do something to stop Chancellor Adam Sutler.  The future, as he further describes would be bleak unless he continues his life long work of inspiring the common people to band together by wearing the mask and robe as he does to hide his identity and to overthrow such evil.

Mr. Wasserman writes…

Mr. Wasserman writes:

“EVIL to me was far too powerful a word whose implications may not fit many of the definitions people give it.”

There have been many examples of EVIL in the past, and more being demonstrated even as we speak in places such as Iraq for example.  Criminals who have committed insidious crimes of violence are being jailed and put away, but that does not erase the vile indisputably cruel acts that they have done.  EVIL is most commonly associated with Satan and the acts of demonic presences, and these would include the worst of the horrid unimaginable acts that they have done in the Bible.  Those are the types of acts we would only have nightmares about, and of course as Mr. W brought about, Chaos is the root of all evil, if anything else.
